Do you have a breakthrough idea and want to start a venture of your own? Would you rather be your own boss than work under someone? Our Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), which is run entirely by students in coordination with faculty members, can help you do just that.
NU’s core principles of making learning industry-linked, technology-based, research-driven and seamless as well as our thrust on holistic development ensure that our students evolve into independent thinkers and innovators. As a result, NU has emerged as a hotbed of innovation and enterprise today.
CIIE plays a key role here in promoting student-owned startups at NU. It builds awareness, manages the university’s various entrepreneurial initiatives, and also incubates innovative ideas in all emerging technologies.
In addition, the university’s Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) working under Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) encourages, inspires and mentors young students to work with new ideas from their formative years.
Mission and key objectives
NIIT University’s students have a spirit of entrepreneurship that helps to infuse fresh new ideas into business and organisation.
Its key objectives are to:
- Foster the entrepreneurial spirit
- Create technology-based new enterprises
- Create value-added jobs and services
- Facilitate technology transfers, and
- Promote the speedy commercialisation of R&D output
Activities and services
CIIE conducts various activities and offers a host of services to NU’s young entrepreneurs. These include:
- Incubating innovative new ventures and providing branding services. Young startups can seek permission to brand themselves as an ‘NIIT University Incubated Company’
- Mentoring young entrepreneurs (by faculty, alumni, industry experts)
- Providing seed funding, subject to the availability of funds and grants
- Hosting networking events to showcase incubates, besides introducing them to angel investors, venture capitalists and other financial institutions
- Connecting startups with mentors, experts, consultants and advisors
- Providing physical infrastructure and creating support systems for business incubation activities. For instance, the CIIE grants permissions to startups for the use of libraries, laboratories, workshop facilities and other equipment at NU, besides providing meeting rooms and internet services
- Offering business support services such as accounting, tax services, as well as the services of a company secretary, IP and legal team

Meet our amazing young start-ups
Since 2017 alone, NU has given birth to 40 startups in a host of areas. 8 startups were added during AY 2024-25 leading to creating 14 young entrepreneurs who initiated these 8 startups.
STAC-SEE THROUGH ACADEMIES LLP: See Through Academies aims to bridge the gap between local coaching institutions and students who need these coaching to prepare for their competitive exams or for their boards. Through their app every student can analyze and choose the best coaching among the listed ones that suits their preferences the best way through several features that the app will showcase.
While the immediate focus is on early cataract detection, the broader objective includes developing AI-powered diagnostic solutions for: Diabetic Retinopathy Screening, Glaucoma Risk Analysis, Macular Degeneration Detection, Real-time Tele-Ophthalmology Tools and Vision Quality Assessment for Drivers/Workers.
Astra Securities: Founded by NU alumni Shikhil Sharma and Ananda Krishnan (BTech CSE, Class of 2016), Astra Securities is a global leader in web application security. It was listed among the top 100 most innovative companies of 2020 and has won numerous awards over the years including the most innovative security company award, which was presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 5th Global Conference on Cyber Space (GCCS). It also won a grant from the French government under the French Tech Ticket Program, which was presented by former French President François Hollande.
AT-Lead: NU alumnus Atif Inayat Khan (BTech CSE, Class of 2016) founded the GIS mapping and drone surveillance and vigilance company, which manufactures quadcopters. AT-Lead is currently working in the fields of precision agriculture and petrochemicals pipeline surveillance along with numerous projects on GIS mapping and entertainment drones.
RAAV Techlabs, founded by Rahul Kumar, Alphonse Das Antony, Abhinandan Bhargava and Varshnee Raj, is designing a smart watch. It has received funding from the iCreate Spark Up fund for developing a prototype of a wearable technology. Earlier, it received funding from IBM’s Global Entrepreneurship programme as well as under the NIDHI-PRAYAS initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Trackyo, which was founded by Yash Agarwal and Kritika Jain, is working on customised security solutions such as vehicle monitoring and driver assistance systems. The start-up is associated with Carnegie Mellon University, Fly high, t–high and Auto Nebula.
AzukArin, which is founded by Ayushi Goel and Archit Kaila, is working on developing a smart refrigerator that can notify its users about the availability and status of its contents so that they can plan and order groceries accordingly. The venture was adjudged the best student start-up at a student start-up exposure programme organised by the Government of Rajasthan and won a trip to Silicon Valley for the same.
Ragno Electronics is an Internet of Things (IoT) start-up set up by Sachin Reddy, SR Rahul and Rohit Samineni. It is helping industries to conserve resources by achieving energy efficiency, and to use smart automation, IoT and artificial intelligence to collect and analyse data for further efficiency gains.
LIMEWIT: Our alumni aren’t only setting up tech-based ventures. Lakshay Dhupar, Rahul Ranjan, Hussain Abbas BW, and Sai Praneeth (Class of 2019) set up LIMEWIT as a platform for untapped talent. They are leveraging their expertise in creative content development and management as well as the power of social media to enable artistees, including writers, photographers and other creative artists to showcase their talent to a wider audience.
Cats In Lab Coats Technologies: Cats In Lab Coats Technologies is a private firm specializing in autonomous systems. Its focus spans industrial, defence, agriculture, and consumer applications, with a core emphasis on autonomous drones and rovers. An achievement that the startup is proud of is its contribution to the Indian Air Force talent pool for swarmed drones and UAVs, thus showcasing its commitment to innovation through MBC2.

It does this with the help of graphic designers thus providing them with a marketplace to sell their merchandise and earn the profits using their platform. They intend creating a full featured e-commerce website such as Myntra, Amazon and the like.
Digiboom is a leading marketing agency working consistently to give a business a boom. They have an experienced & talented team that works on all domains to provide the best services. Their branding and user centered design focussing on delivering creative, interactive experiences for their customers using a whole range of web and mobile applications leads to increased customers engagement and growth in brand awareness.
PeerXP Technologies help in streamlining enterprise activities leading to business success. They have developed a methodology to integrate the competitive features offered by digital technologies with various industries to help grow the business. Their services offer a complete set of packages to develop, integrate and operate a business or organization online.
Medwle Technologies Private Limited: The startup provides a one-stop for health management of both people and pets. It eases the pain of making hospital appointments by providing real-time GPS based tracking as well as allied needs such as undergoing lab tests, quick access to blood banks in times of emergencies, etc. It also provides making appointments with veterinary doctors for pets.
Sugardaadi is a company that focuses on replicating the joy of happiness that one receives while getting surprises and ordering stuff from the web. To replicate the feeling, Sugardaadi offers mystery boxes that will be tailored to the preference of every individual.
Trackyotech Private Limited: With a vision to become the leading vendors in vehicle monitoring and driver assistance systems, the startup aspires to deliver professionally engineered, high quality, technology driven and reliable products to gain the trust of their customers and establish their brand name in the market globally.
GigCult Entertainment Solutions Private Limited is a privately incorporated on 19 August 2016. It is classified as Non-govt company and is registered at Registrar of Companies, Mumbai. Its mission is to disrupt the event industry by creating an online marketplace to offer an easy solution to anyone who wants to organize any kind of event, backed by verified professionals, delivering quality and trusted services.

2023
- Parth Madaan, Palak Sahoo won the HACK CHALLENGE 2023 organized by IBM CSR for Academia, in collaboration with SmartBridge.
- Tulika Arun, Kushagra Mishra, Deepak Chauhan, Prabsaran Singh, Gabrial Weion Fancon, Adarsh Kumar secured runner's up position in Smart India Hackathon 2022 Finals organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC) in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
2022
- Dishank Kalra, Akshat Jain, Varun Bisht & Prof. Ratna Sanyal won the First Prize in the 11th Project Innovation Contest 2022, 18th International Conference on Distributed Computing & Intelligent Technology, KIIT Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 22nd January 2022. The topic was “Analysis of student’s performance from Chat transcripts and online discussion”.
2021
- NIIT University Students bag First Position in AABTonics GIS Competition AABSys IT, an IT company headquartered in Odisha, organised AABTonics – An International GIS competition. AABSys IT is a leading exporter of GIS, CAD and other software services. This event was focused on promoting the use of GIS technology and innovation. Team Professional Pirates consisting of Trisha Sharma and Mayuri Mane, both from B.Tech CSE, Batch of 2018-22 of NIIT University bagged the first position.
2020
- NU’s team, ‘Dividers’, won the Jury's Choice Award at the prestigious IBM Hack Challenge 2020. It ranked among the top 30 grand finalists at the event from a total of 4,570 teams, which included 9,295 participants from all over India.
- NU’s team, ‘Game Changers’, was the winner in the software category at the Smart India Hackathon 2020.
- Team “Bug Slayers” participated in NASA Space Apps Challenge 2020, organized by NASA in collaboration with Hacker's Tribe Foundation, which was held from October 2-4 2020. Over 26,000 people participated in the challenge from nearly 150 countries. Bug Slayers got the Global Award Nominee in the Phase 1 Universal Event Judging out of 2200+ teams which participated in the challenge from India.
- Hillytech Hackathon Team ‘BugSmashers’ who represented NU, secured first position in the hackathon. Team worked on “Outdoor Plant Monitoring and Tracking System” and proposed solution in both software and hardware category.
2019
- Harshit Budhraja led a team that won the second prize at IDEAthon 2019 for Japanese start-ups and Indian students, which was powered by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (Government of Japan). The team worked on enhancing online shopping experience with the use of augmented reality, in association with Pepperfry.
- A team of 18 students participated in the E-summit held at IIT-Roorkee and secured the first or first runner-up position in various events such as Spin to Win, Geeks for Geeks Quiz, and Productathon.
2018
- Uddalak Bhaduri, Sarthak Tripathi and Shreyas Sanghvi participated in the Hack Junction at Helsinki, Finland, and were adjudged runners-up in the Espoo City Challenge.
- Harshit Budhraja and Uddalak Bhaduri participated in Hack Moscow in Russia.
2017
- NU coders led by K Manoj Kumar were second runners-up at the Smart India Hackathon for their work on developing a smart document management system.
- Uddalak Bhaduri, Sarthak Tripathi and Shreyas Sanghvi participated in MHacks at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA. They won in the Best Use of Azure and Best Financial Hack using Coinbase and Wolfram categories.
2016
- NU had the maximum number of projects from a single university at the Microsoft Imagine Cup held in April 2016. NU’s MIC students submitted 11 projects, of which four were selected in the innovation category at the national level. NUtons Rahul Agarwal, Manash Deka, Kanika Agarwal and Akshay Agarwal won the first runner-up prize in this category for their project, Smart Bin.
