Date: July 27 2025

Time: 10:00 am onwards

Venue: NU Campus

What is Van Mahotsav?

NIIT University has been celebrating Van Mahotsav every year since inception, in the last week of July, to promote the culture of tree plantation and consequent environment resurrection. It is a unique NU endeavour in which all student, faculty and staff members of the University join hands with the local community, government officials and local schools. The event consists of tree plantation, cultural performance by students and local artists, and a community lunch partaken by everyone.

Van Mahotsav 2025

This year, Van Mahotsav was celebrated on Sunday, 27 July 2025. The NSS Unit of NIIT University organised Van Mahotsav 2025 with boundless enthusiasm, community spirit, and a strong commitment to the environment. This week-long celebration was not just about planting trees, it was about planting ideas, values, and hope for a greener tomorrow.

Address by Shri Bhupendra Yadav, Honourable Cabinet Minister (Environment, Forest and Climate Change)

The highlight of the celebration was the presence of Shri Bhupender Yadav, Hon’ble Union Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change. In an inspiring session with students, faculty, and staff, the Minister spoke about environmental conservation, sustainable development, and how youth can be the torchbearers of a greener nation. He shared his journey from a practicing lawyer to Union Minister, sprinkling valuable lessons on leadership, perseverance, and the importance of sports in shaping character. Mr. Amitabh Kant, Chairman (Chancellor) of NIIT University and Mr. Rajendra Pawar, Founder of NIIT University were also present at the event.

Shri Amitabh Kant on Twitter:

NU has built one of India’s greenest campuses—reviving the Aravalli’s while creating a learning space rooted in sustainability. Residential campuses offer more than convenience—they create the space for deep learning, lasting friendships, and personal growth. At NU, young minds think tech and innovation in harmony with nature. A true model for the future.

Green Beginnings: The celebrations kicked off with a morning plantation drive where students came together to plant saplings across campus — a living symbol of NU’s dedication to biodiversity and eco-consciousness.

National Spirit: Students also gathered to listen to Mann Ki Baat by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, sparking discussions on innovation, youth empowerment, and social responsibility. Culture & Community: Music, dance, and soulful bhajans by NU students and local residents filled the air with harmony. The Hon’ble Minister also participated in a ceremonial tree plantation at NEP (North-East Point), further strengthening the green message. Community Eating: A heartwarming Bhandara saw students serving food to members of the local community, embodying the true NSS spirit of Not Me, But You.

Shri Bhupendra Yadav was gracious enough to inaugurate the newly designed Music Room and paid a visit to the NU Library as well.

Van Mahotsav 2025 at NIIT University was more than a celebration, it was a reminder that together, we can create change. Through environmental action, meaningful dialogue, and acts of service, NU once again showed that sustainability is not just an idea here, it’s a way of life.

Over the past 15 years NU has planted more than one lakh trees on the Aravalli (Kali Pahadi), constructed 15 check dams on the slopes of Kali Pahadi (with the help of District Administration) and created an elaborate system for recharging and recycling of water on the Campus. All this has resulted in the creation of a microclimate around the campus with temperature two degrees lower that Neemrana Town and AQI around 50% of the level in the town. These efforts have resulted in NU being declared the Greenest Campus, and NU has received six Green Campus awards as well as the First UNDP IWA TERI award for “Excellence in Water Use Efficiency” in 2022.
