NIIT University hosts the 16th Annual Lecture by Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa and Former CEO NITI Aayog

About Mr Amitabh Kant
Mr Amitabh Kant, serves as India’s G20 Sherpa, championing the nation’s interests and leading an inclusive agenda. Mr Kant is a distinguished Indian bureaucrat and former CEO of the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog). He spearheaded the Aspirational Districts Program (ADP), elevating 112 backward districts to top performers, recognized by UNDP. Mr Kant served as Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) where he led transformative initiatives driving “Make in India”; “Ease of Doing Business” and “Start Up India”. The Start Up India initiative produced a surge in startups from 352 (2016) to 125,000 (2024) as well as 110 unicorns. Under his stewardship as Chief Executive Officer, Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC), many new initiatives were implemented. He facilitated partnership with Japan for development of sustainable manufacturing cities in India. In addition, he successfully executed PPP infrastructure projects across six states to create a global manufacturing and trading hub. Furthermore, Mr Kant’s “Incredible India” campaign successfully showcased India’s rich cultural heritage and diversity to the world. By promoting tourism and attracting international visitors, this initiative has contributed to economic growth and enhanced India’s global image. Kant’s legacy extends beyond his formal roles. His visionary leadership, coupled with his unwavering commitment to public service, has inspired countless individuals and organizations. His ability to think strategically and implement innovative solutions has made him a respected figure both domestically and internationally. His journey began with a solid academic foundation, having graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and subsequently earning a master’s degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is a Chevening Scholar. He has also undertaken a mid-term course with John F, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. His entry into the elite Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1980 marked the beginning of a distinguished career that would span decades of public service.
