Everybody is aware that biotechnology is revolutionising the behemoth industries like medicine, agriculture, food technology, and nature’s nourishment. Since the Indian biotechnology industry is going to expand rapidly from $63 billion in 2019 to $150 billion in the year 2025, it is opening huge career opportunities for future professionals.
At NIIT University, the BTech Biotechnology has been conceived to bridge the gap between industry and research. It gives the students the best blend of the latest knowledge, experience, and professional skills, which empower them to spread their wings in the rapidly changing biotech industry.
NIIT University’s BTech Biotechnology programme is a well-tailored blend of theoretical principles and innovative practice. The course covers a wide range of subjects that prepare the students to deal with practical applications of biotechnology courses.
The curriculum comprises Microbiology, the study of microorganisms and their various uses; Bioprocess Technology, with practical training on industrial biotech processes using the latest technologies; and Bioinformatics, with computer tools and techniques for improved biological research.
In addition to this, Environmental Biotechnology instructs the students to create green and environmentally friendly biotech technologies, whereas Molecular Biology focuses on learning about genes and their numerous applications in health as well as agriculture. Together, these fields provide the students with a good base and hands-on experience according to the prevailing market trends.
NIIT University’s BTech Biotechnology boasts certain unique strengths that differentiate it from the traditional streams of study. One of them is Industry-Integrated Learning, whereby the curriculum is co-created with industry partners so that students learn in the truest sense by executing research-based projects, internships, and mentorship, so that they are equipped with solutions to real problems. NIIT University also has Advanced Research Facilities such as upgraded biotech labs, experience with innovation centres, and association with premier research institutions and biotech companies.
The second strongly established pillar is the Entrepreneurial Orientation and Professional Development pillar of NU, wherein students are motivated to pursue startup opportunities in biotechnology, are trained in patents and intellectual property, and are provided with acceptable placement in premier biotech companies and research institutions. The project also offers Global Exposure and International Collaboration, in the sense of collaboration with institutions such as Victoria University, Australia, facilitating transfer of credits as well as international research program participation. The students are exposed to global trends like AI and data science in biotech and international internships and further studies, which are poised to excel in an internationally networked world of biotech.
NIIT University is working on being an excellence driver in biotechnology courses by merging industry-driven education with global biotechnology trends. Learning that is research-driven is the core at the university, addressing real biological problems and fostering innovation with sustainability as the area of emphasis in healthcare, ecology, and agriculture. At NU, the students are not only being molded as graduates but as the future leaders in biotechnology working towards a vision of scientific progress and sustainable development.
• Shriya Banju (3rd year BTech Biotechnology)—Selected for the Hands-on Lab Training (HLT) Programme at IIT Hyderabad to avail hands-on, state-of-the-art biotech lab training.
• International student Jamyang Ugyen Tshomo—Shortlisted for Summer Training Programme 2025, CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad, one of India’s top-ranked Indian biotech research institutes.
These success stories of NU reflect its emphasis on research-oriented learning and academic excellence.
To be eligible for the BTech Biotechnology programme at NIIT University, a candidate should have passed Class 12 with English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
They must have a minimum aggregate of 55% in Class 12. The admission process consists of the NU Aptitude Test (NUAT) and a Personal Interview. NIIT University follows an egalitarian admission policy, under which students are chosen not just based on academic merit, but also problem-solving skills, innovativeness, and merit.
Result:“A Future-Proof Biotechnology Degree, which is not a Back-Up Plan but a Breakthrough Plan”
NIIT University’s BTech Biotechnology is not a degree, but a future degree. With greater industry partnerships, exposure to the real world, experiential research, and entrepreneurial abilities, NU moulds biotechnology graduates as innovation leaders, industry-ready professionals, and budding scientists.
