NIIT University’s PhD programme in Electronics & Communications (ECE) is designed to encourage research in three flourishing areas:

- Flexible Electronics
- Green Energy and Energy Harvesting
The thrust areas for research under these three domains are:
- Energy harvesting to power remotely placed sensors and devices requiring low power
- Mobile robots with suitable ad hoc network technology for agricultural applications
- Studies of materials suitable for Flexible Electronic Products
- Redundancy analysis and spectrum sensing for optimum utilisation of white space in ISM band
- MIMO based antenna designs to be compatible with two or more combinations of Radio Access Network ( RAN ) like GSMRAN , GSM-Edge RAN , UTRAN , Evolved-UTRAN , and 5-G RAN
- Development of trans-receiver systems with carrier signals like mm-wave or optical wave to achieve maximum security during transmission of Information/Data
