Dr Ganapathirao Maradana
- Associate Professor & Area Director
- Area: Mathematics and Basic Sciences

Dr Ganapathirao’s research interests lie in fluid dynamics. He works on steady as well unsteady, mixed convection, laminar boundary layer flow problems with heat and mass transfer. Specifically, he works on boundary layer flow problems with non-uniform slot suction/injection.
The process of suction or injection is useful in many applications such as in the design of thrust bearing and radial diffusers, thermal oil recovery, in chemical processes to remove reactants, and to prevent corrosion or scaling and reduce the drag, etc. The applications of non-uniform slot suction/injection are widely used in the aircraft to reduce heat transfer across turbine blades and to control transition and /or separation of boundary layers over airplane control surfaces.
Previously, Dr Ganapathirao has worked on flow over a vertical cone, wedge, stretching sheet and plate, considering them under various physical effects such as chemical reaction, heat source or sink, viscous dissipation, Joule’s dissipation, Soret and Dufour effects, etc.
He uses numerical simulation to study mixed convection and laminar boundary layer flow problems. In many practical situations, mixed convection flows do not necessarily admit similarity solutions, where non-similarity has to be considered. An efficient numerical technique is used to obtain non-similar solutions by solving coupled non-linear partial differential equations using an implicit finite difference scheme in combination with the quasi-linearization technique.
