From Biotechnology to Business Management, Sourya Rudra’s dynamic foundation at NIIT University leads to a successful career in Europe

Oct 14, 2021

“We are all capable of much bigger and greater things than what we imagine. You’ll truly realise your potential when you challenge yourself,” NIIT University (NU) alumnus Sourya Rudra offers words of inspiration that stems from his experiences. The BTech, Class of 2018 student majored in BT (Biotechnology) but was drawn to the business aspect of the field during the course of his programme. The pursuit of his dreams took him to EM Lyon Business School, France and was a stepping stone for his flourishing global career. He looks back at the journey that began at NU.

From starting and managing a team of 20 members involved in cross-cultural programmes around the world to overseeing project that hosted six international interns, Sourya was actively involved on campus as the President of AIESEC at NU. But it was the flexible curriculum that would be the gamechanger for his career. “The flexibility of NU curriculum offered me opportunities to study subjects I was interested in as electives. Thanks to the mix of business electives with scientific subjects, I knew I was interested in the business side of the Biotech world,” he says.

As Sourya identified his specific interests, he made up his mind to pursue his Masters from a Business School. He secured his admissions with the prestigious B Schools based in Lyon, and winning the coveted Eiffel Excellence Scholarship from the French Ministry of External Affairs, was the icing on the cake. “Through my time at my business school, I started picking up courses, which would help me propagate my journey into the healthcare industry. When you take the initiative and come out of your comfort zone, you can achieve great things” he adds thoughtfully.

Beginning his career with Sanofi Pasteur, France in their global vaccines’ headquarters in Lyon, Sourya has certainly gone on to achieve great success in a short span of time. After his stint in global marketing and communication projects, he has started working as an Analyst for Kantar Health in Paris. “I’m now part of the European Commercial team, which specialises in the oncology consulting domain. None of this would have happened if I hadn’t pushed myself and received the support and foundation from NU,” he says humbly as he concludes.
