Ifham Husain Siddiqui, B.Tech Computer Science, Class of 2024 about his experience of starting his B.Tech. online with NIIT University

Jan 25, 2020

2020 has been an exceptional year in every sense of the word for people everywhere. This was even more so for students like me who completed their schooling in this pandemic year and ventured on to college life.

Personally, it was pretty rough – our exams and results were delayed, and this also affected our performance. Our JEE exams were also delayed and the lockdown and online learning adjustments affected our JEE results as well. The delayed JEE results also meant that many universities had closed out by giving out provisional admissions.

This was when I came across NIIT University which was accepting applications. My brother was enrolled in the IMBA batch here and was in the third year, so I was familiar with NIIT University. Apart from that, I undertook some desktop research on the engineering courses and spoke with some faculty members to get more details of the courses. Missing out on the new batch’s induction because I joined late shall always be a regret for me.

Teachers have been very enthusiastic and positive about this new online teaching mode, and that is inspiring for us. They are also adopting really interesting teaching tools and techniques that make the subject more relatable online. For example, in our Math class Ganapathi Rao Sir actually used his iPad to teach us and did not use any pdf! To facilitate online learning the University has created two portals. One is the NU Learning Portal and other is Moodle, the exam portal. These portals are intuitive, easy to use, and have ensured that our education has not hampered even as we stay safe at home.
Interactions with seniors has also moved online and they are mentoring us for projects besides any help in some of the assignments. Here too, NIIT University has been very helpful in facilitating the introductions and interactions, which are an important part of learning.

It will soon be time for the next fresh batch to join and for these prospective applicants, I will say NIIT University is the university of future. The excellent faculty is extremely supportive and friendly, and always available to help students. Overall, the University has exceeded all expectations in facilitating learning in a difficult and uncertain period. I can’t imagine any other institution doing more than what NIIT University has.
