“More than technical expertise, I feel NU helped me with some universal skill sets,” believes alumni Sreyash of Class of 2017

January 25, 2020
My name is Sreyash Ratna Tripathi and I am from NIIT University’s Class of 2017, B.Tech. CSE. For me, NU was a place of exploration and innovation. Despite all the course load, we managed to make time to pursue personal interests that we never had the opportunity for earlier.

Academically, the USPs of NU like the 6-month Industry Practice, choice of a wide variety of electives and specializations, and the industry connect went a long way in developing my potential as a professional. NU’s challenging courses like Data Structures, Algorithms, Microcontrollers and Processors, and Java honed all my technical potential. Perhaps the only aspect I missed out on was the chance to choose a Minor, which was not available in my time. Current students should make the most of this offering and build abilities in an area outside of their Major.

This technical expertise landed me my Industry Practice with KPMG, where I secured my first job after NU. I was a Cyber Security Analyst when I joined and was later promoted to Associate Consultant. My profile involves executing cyber security assignments like Vulnerability Assessments, Red Team Exercises, and investigating Cyber Incidents. I have led quite a few Cyber Incident Response Engagements at KPMG by now.

More than technical expertise, I feel NU helped me with some universal skill sets that are useful in my professional life. These are Patience to deal with people and situations that are not agreeable, and Proactiveness to go after opportunities when they do not readily present themselves to you.

I find this field deeply interesting and I am planning to attend Carnegie Mellon University this fall semester for my MS in Information Security. It is an area with tremendous potential – we have actually seen an increase of business in the pandemic due to rising threats. Infact, KPMG is hiring at almost all levels for their Cyber Security team in India, especially in Cyber Incident Response.

I love keeping in touch with NU and my batchmates through social media and it is heartening to see the university grow. I do hope all the students do well by making mistakes, learning, setting their goals, and working single-mindedly to fulfill them.
